…in drive to encourage higher education
The Roseau Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (RCCU) recently launched a new
Programme, “Learn While You Earn” for encouraging employed persons to
pursue higher education while maintaining income.
“Learn While You Earn” gives RCCU members and the public access to special
education loans for pursuing local, correspondence and online programmes. These
loans are available to employed persons already pursuing studies as well as
those planning to enroll. Parents can apply for this special loan for a son or
daughter who is not yet employed and who wishes to pursue studies through a
local or online programme.
Tertiary education is no longer an option but a necessity in these competitive
times. RCCU is encouraging members to acquire knowledge and skills for
improving their performance on the job, and to get qualified for positioning
themselves for a promotion or a career move. By staying in Dominica and getting
qualified, “on-the-job” students can cut education costs and gain valuable
experience on the job.
RCCU believes “The Learn While you Earn” programme will support national human
resource development goals including goals to have a graduate in every household
by the year 2020, and a more highly educated workforce.
This new initiative highlights the Credit Union’s continuing contribution to
national development since its establishment in 1951. RCCU, an indigenous
financial cooperative, has helped shape Dominica’s socio-economic landscape and
raised the standard of living of Dominicans by providing safe access to
financial services including credit for higher education, home ownership and
small business over the past 57 years.
