RCCU Offers Special Education Loans

…in drive to encourage higher education

The Roseau Cooperative Credit Union Ltd (RCCU) recently launched a new

Programme, “Learn While You Earn” for encouraging employed persons to

pursue higher education while maintaining income.

Learn While You Earn” gives RCCU members and the public access to special

education loans for pursuing local, correspondence  and online programmes. These

loans are available to employed persons already pursuing studies as well as

those planning to enroll.  Parents can apply for this special loan for a son or

daughter who is not yet employed and who wishes to pursue studies through a

local or online programme.

Tertiary education is no longer an option but a necessity in these competitive

times.  RCCU is encouraging members to acquire knowledge and skills for

improving their  performance on the job, and to get qualified for positioning

themselves for a promotion or a career move. By staying in Dominica and getting

qualified, “on-the-job” students can cut education costs and gain valuable

experience on the job.

RCCU believes “The Learn While you Earn” programme will support national human

resource development goals including goals to have a graduate in every household

by the year 2020, and a more highly educated workforce.

This new initiative highlights the Credit Union’s continuing contribution to

national development since its establishment in 1951. RCCU, an indigenous

financial cooperative, has helped shape Dominica’s socio-economic landscape and

raised the  standard of living of Dominicans by providing safe access to

financial services including credit  for higher education, home ownership and

small business over the past 57 years.

RCCU Gives Back to Community
Tuesday, 11 November 2008

As part of activities for Credit Union Week in October,  RCCU distributed grants to a number of organisations and groups covering sports, education, culture, youth and the elderly.  This is in keeping with the Credit Union Operating Principle of  "Social Responsibility" which charges credit unions  to give back to the larger community where their members live and work.

The Trafalgar Juvenile Football Academy  was the recipient of the largest grant ,an amount of $6000, towards its 2008/2009 programme.  RCCU has sponsored the Academy since 2004.

Also receiving support were the Dominica Academy of Arts & Sciences  (DAAS) for the Reunion 2008 International Soccer Tournament; Cultural Division for the National Cultural Gala; Dominica Council of Ageing for the senior Games; Dominica Association of Disabled Persons for its Dollar Day; Dominica Football Referees Association for the 40th Anniversary Week of Activities; Shalom Pre-School for a facelift of the school and Michelle Belle for participation in the Ms. Charlotteville Pageant.

Annually through its donations and sponsorship programmes, RCCU returns a portion of its net surplus to the community by supporting a variety of worthwhile causes.

6% Dividend Paid on Member Share Capital
Sunday, 06 July 2008

The approval of a 6% dividend on Member Share Capital  (MSC) was among the highlights of the Society's recently held 57th Annual General Meeting  (AGM) which was held at theConference Room of the Public Service Union  on Wednesday, June 25, 2008.

This is the first dividend payout  by  the Society since   MSC was introduced  on December 29, 2006.  The rate of 6% is the maximum allowed by the Cooperative Societies Regulations S.R.O. 26 of  2001, which allows cooperative societies to pay dividends up to 3% above the savings rate set by the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB).

Dividend payments were made to all members' accounts on June 30, 2008.   It is expected that the payment of this attractive rate  will encourage members to invest further in their credit union by buying more shares for  building the Society's capital.
