RCCU SCHOLAR EXCELS AT CXC

RCCU’s 2004 Merit Scholar, David Hodge, has added yet another achievement to his growing list.  David who placed 2nd in the 2004 Common Entrance Examinations went on in June to cop the coveted award of valedictorian of the Dominica Grammar School graduating class of 2009.

Recently David was named as a top student in the CXC examinations having earned 9 ones and 1 two. David received 1s in Spanish, French, Mathematics, Information Technology, English, Integrated Science, Principles of Business, Office Administration, Social Studies and a 2 in English Literature.  Congratulations David!  You certainly have made RCCU proud.

RCCU ADOPTED CENTENARIAN TURNS 102

On July 29, a large group comprising RCCU family--management, volunteers and staff; church officials; Government Ministers and the media traveled to the small southern community of Dubique to celebrate the 102nd birthday of RCCU’s adopted centenarian, Sidora “Sido” Alexander.

 The celebration was organized by RCCU and its staff caring committee, FunCare. “Sido” was in high spirits on her special day and was particularly delighted with the rendition “Give Me My Roses” by RCCU staff member, Legal. 

 

 Among the highlights was the announcement by Government Minister, Honourable Lorraine Bannis-Roberts and Parliamentary Secretary, Peter St. Jean, that government would soon be building a new home for “Sido”.  Antonia Alexander, was recognized by FunCare for the love and care provided to her grandmother, “Side” . sedo_034.jpg

 

 
RCCU Holds 58th AGM

 Reports Solid Financial Performance

The approval of a 6% dividend on  Member Shares and plans to introduce an international debit card, online transactions  and to amalgamate with four sister credit unions  were  among the highlights when members of the Roseau Co-operative Credit Union Ltd met on June 8, to review the Society’s performance for the Year 2008.   The Society staged its 58th  Annual General Meeting (AGM) under the theme, “Maintaining Financial Stability in a Challenging Environment.” 

RCCU President, Mr. Dexter Ducreay, reported to the membership that  the Society recorded solid financial performance in 2008.  Assets grew by   8.12% or $19.5M which propelled total assets beyond the $1/4B mark to $259.9M.  The Society recorded a surplus of $2.67M, an increase  of  22.12% over 2007.  Members continued to save regularly resulting in a net increase in savings and deposits of 7.8% or $16.6M.  A total of 1,176 new members joined the Society steering the membership roll to 24,542. 

 

The nominations to fill positions on the Board of Directors were accepted unopposed by the membership. Nominees Miss Rhoda Celaire, Mrs. Janice Jean-Jacques Thomas and Mr. Thomas Dorsett filled the vacant positions.  Mr. Cecil Shillingford, Mr. Augustus Etienne and Miss Nadette Williams were elected to the Supervisory Committee.  Newly elected members of the  Credit Committee are Mrs. Julie Durand, Mr. Antoine Martin and Ms. Shirlyn Pond.

 

115 lucky members walked away with a total of $11,500 in prizes of $100 each from the

 eagerly anticipated Lucky Bird draw which was held at the end of the meeting.

In keeping with the  international co-operative principle of Social Responsibility and the credit union philosophy of People Helping People, RCCU recently made donations to an individual and two organizations. Mr. Bentley Royer received $2,353 for replacing a cooker which was lost when his home in Salisbury was consumed by fire last December. The Dominica Association of Disabled People (DADP) received an increased annual subvention of $1000, and a donation of $10,000 was made to  the Private Sector Foundation for Health (PSFH).  The foundation assists citizens  in obtaining medical care and  purchases equipment for the hospitals. Equipment valued at over $400,000 has been purchased and almost $300,000 disbursed in medical grants to date. donation_dadp.jpgdonation_health.jpg  
 
RCCU Is Credit Union of Year 2008

web_plaque.jpgFor a second consecutive year, RCCU has been judged Credit Union of the Year by the Dominica Cooperative Societies League.  The award for 2008 was presented to RCCU President, Mr. Dexter Ducreay, at a ceremony held on May 19 at the League’s office in Roseau, Dominica. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding service and performance and reflects a commitment to service excellence and credit union best practices. RCCU members can proudly continue conducting business with their credit union knowing that it is safe, sound, stable and strong.  Non-members are invited to stop by our offices to join our growing and satisfied membership
